During a short stay in London in between missions, Chester "Chet" Atkins meets Doris Chatham and they have an immediate romantic connection. Chet is assigned to fly a dangerous reconnaissance mission over Nazi-occupied territories of France. His plane is shot down and he is presumed killed-in-action. Back in London, Doris receives word of his incident and also discovers she's pregnant with Chet's child. She grieves his loss, but has to move on only for him to return to London at the end of the war. She is now unsure if there is still a path forward for them.
