A collection of landscape and abstract oil paintings by the artist Jean David cataloging a selection of paintings from the first ten or so years of his return to art and painting. Painted in a variety of locations in Australia and Europe, the paintings document the artist’s progress with paint, light and colour. This variety of locations engendered a progress in Jean’s ‘seeing’ the landscape in an evolving manner. This was bought about in some part by the differing light in the Welsh countryside to the North Sea beaches of The Netherlands, to the shimmering light of the French farmlands and the dryer light in Australia. Each of these different ‘lights’ which are a natural product of the environment, produced an extra dimension to the way in which Jean observed the landscape and subsequently painted it.
