When a tragic accident robs Bill and Elaine of their parents their lives are shattered. Determined to take care of his wayward younger sister Bill does his best to keep her on track but soon finds it harder than he ever imagined. When he receives an unexpected phone call from Elaine in Madeira he is compelled to help her out of her latest scrape. He swaps Dorset for Madeira where he finds himself rashly agreeing to sail a boat back to Portugal for its dubious owner. During the voyage a crew member is mysteriously lost overboard and suddenly Bill and Elaine find themselves caught up in a dangerous set of circumstances where drug runners, policemen and a complex chain of events combine to leave them fighting to clear their names.
