Matteo fa credere al cugino Alfonso Emerito di aver ereditato una forte somma di denaro da uno zio ma che potra riscuotere soltanto dopo la sua morte. Cosi con la complicita della moglie di quest'ultimo i tre mettono in scena un piano per simulare la morte di Alfonso, cosi poi da poter dividersi l'eredita. Ma non tutto va per il verso giusto. Divertente commedia ricca di colpi di scena, con un finale tutto a sorpresa.
