Many families sailed to America in the 1800s hoping to find a better life; not many expected that upon their arrival they would be pitted against fellow countrymen in the American Civil War. A Yankeeas Shadow tells the story of two such families who met during a voyage to America. Eleven-year-old Lucas Farrington and six-year-old Meagan Donahue were excited during the crossing until a major epidemic swept through the ship, taking the lives of many. The two went their separate ways when the ship docked in America and a strange twist of fate reunites them on the eve of the Civil War. Although neither recognizes the other, one thing is for certain: she is a stubborn Rebel spying for the Confederacy and he is a damn Yankee commanding a federal navy vessel who, much to her dismay, spends more time on land than at sea.
