A Whilrwind in Leytonstone is the second book in the trilogy. It continues the theme of unseen mysteries in the East End of London. The girl who defeated the monstrous Tattooed Man in Gods and Devils in Leyton who is now named as Mave, is compelled to fight him again because of the incompetent Furies who failed to drag his spirit back to Hell. Accompanied by the down-and-out street fighter, Herakles, and his frowsy bride, Hebe, she is recruited to assault the factory of death, rescue the child-slaves, and destroy the monster. Together with the faithful Cerberus, and with a little help from the Great God Pan in his form as Monkey, who helped to bring the holy sutras from India to China, Mave undergoes various adventures before triumphing, and unmasking the evil cult of Dionysus.
