  1. At the time of its publication, the authorship of this book was attributed to the author of The Martyrdom of An Empress, which was published anonymously at the turn of the century. It is now known that the author was Marguerite Cunliffe-Owen, an American writer who wrote a syndicated gossip column under the pseudonym, Marquise de Fontenoy. This is a biography of William II, the last German Emperor and King of Prussia. He suffered birth defects from a traumatic breech birth and it has been suggested that he may have suffered some brain trauma, which some speculate might have contributed to some of his more aggressive personality traits.
