Quentin Durward is a historical novel written by Sir Walter Scott and published in 1823. The story is set in 15th century France and Scotland, and follows the adventures of the eponymous hero, Quentin Durward, as he becomes embroiled in the political machinations of the court of King Louis XI of France. Quentin is a young Scottish nobleman who travels to France to seek his fortune, and soon finds himself caught up in the power struggles between the King and his various nobles and courtiers. Along the way, Quentin falls in love with the beautiful Isabelle de Croye, a lady-in-waiting to the Queen of France, and must navigate the treacherous waters of courtly intrigue in order to win her hand. The novel is notable for its vivid descriptions of medieval life and politics, as well as its memorable characters and exciting plot twists.
