The Elements of Pain and Conflict in Human life, Considered from a Christian Point of View

Originally published in 1916, this book presents the content of a series of ten lectures delivered at the Cambridge Summer Meeting for that year by various prominent members of the University. The guiding approach for the lectures, in keeping with the wartime context of their delivery, was to deal with the difficulty created for Christian theism ‘by the spectacle of conflict and suffering in the world’.
