Fernand is a young Italian nobleman who grew up in the port of Taranto. One morning his mother on his deathbed reveals a dark secret from the past that forces him to leave for Naples in search of his father and his tutor Laurentius who will help him claim his royal title. His fate is complicated when he discovers that his father has been taken as a prisoner before the ambitious Duke Filippo Visconti in Milan. Continuing his way towards the north, in strange lands, he falls wounded being assaulted and rescued by the monks of an order Benedictines that delays his purpose for another time. When the memories comes back, he returns to the Neapolitan villa where he will patiently await the return of his father Alfonso de Aragon, legitimate heir of the kingdom. Years later he will inherit the throne of his father and must fight against the same papacy, his barons, and the kings of the neighboring kingdoms who coveted and tried to usurp his kingdom, and must defend it together with their children, wives and faithful subjects until death.
