All of humanity was created under the four Stars. These Stars created the world and used their powers to create life, including civilians (those without elemental powers) and Senanes (those with elemental powers). Senanes were gifted the powers by the Star they were born under: Air, Earth, Fire, or Water. Ella was born into the Senane world but whisked out of it at age six for her safety, as she was blessed by the Stars in more ways than one.
