The artworks, "The Language of the Birds" were created by Genie Poretzky-Lee in 2018. The 30 monoprints were inspired by the secret language of the French medieval troubadours, and the poem "The Conference of the Birds" (1177) by Sufi poet Farid ud-Din Attar (c.1145 - c.1221). All untitled, they are printed on Bockinford water colour paper with blue pigment extracted from the woad plant (isatis tinctoria), a natural indigo dye used for thousands of years in Europe and the Middle East. Each mono print is 28cm x 38cm. The text was created specifically for the drawings by Maria Ellen Saliba. The Language of The Birds was compiled, designed and edited by Anna Walker, PhD.
