It has been ten years since Rose Watson left England, searching for a new life, arriving as a migrant at Ellis Island, New York, with her new friend Agnes whom she met on board the ship.

Over the years, her life has changed considerably. Rose has had to grow up quickly and work hard to survive in New York-the street gangs and running battles of gang warfare are never far away.

Rose joins the Charity Board Society, which helps those who arrive at Ellis Island. She is shocked to see children arriving alone, abandoned by their parents having been shipped off like cattle to New York in the hope of them finding a better life, free from poverty.

From her early days in New York, Rose has come a long way. She finds love and happiness by marrying Thomas Blackwood, her saviour. Now, with a family of her own, she uses her maturity and experience to guide the next generation.

As a new decade dawns, with the shadow of WW1 looming, the question remains: what does the future hold for Rose and her family in times of so much uncertainty?
