This book is quite a tough read. Because the reality of caring full-time for your loved one and seeing them go downhill over a number of years with a terminal illness is quite a tough thing to do. But thankfully there are funny incidences that do occur; otherwise, I am not sure one would survive! But despite the trauma, tears, tiredness, and tedium of what becomes routine for everyday life, the experience does bring you both closer together. It is also peppered with so many acts of kindness, help and goodwill from friends, family and medical staff. And most importantly are the carers whom you invite reluctantly at first into your home. Initially they know nothing about you, nor you about them, yet they are prepared to share this journey with you to the very end.
