Dr. Byron Marshall Hyde was a family doctor in Ottawa, a researcher and world-renowned specialist of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) originally and falsely called Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. In 1988, he founded the Nightingale Research Foundation to explore and understand ME and fibromyalgia-type illnesses. Dr. Hyde intertwined qualities of compassion, kindness, loyalty and sensitivity. He always took the necessary time with his patients to find out exactly what they were suffering from. He had a very generous sense of welcome and an astounding memory for people and events with surprising accuracy and detail, which made him a great scientist, doctor and a prolific and unique author of short stories and poetry. Byron Hyde was a true Renaissance man, with wide interests beyond medicine: visual arts, short stories, poetry, horticulture. Dr. Hyde s medical books are signed as Byron Hyde, his stories and poetry as Byron Stratford Davis. He passed away on November 17, 2024, at the age of 88, survived by his beloved wife Lone, his children Christophe, Christian, Dominique, Martin, and his grandchildren, Alessandra, Augustin, Cl o, Felix, Isabelle, Lucas, No, Octave, S bastien and Z phyr. The posthumous release of Poems for Cecilia pays homage to the marvellous writing and important medical research of Dr. Hyde.
