The Pirates of Penzance; or, The Slave of Duty

First performed in 1879, this beloved comic opera tells the story of a young man named Frederic, who was mistakenly apprenticed to a band of pirates as a child. On his twenty-first birthday, he decides to leave the pirates behind and seek his fortune among respectable society. But complications arise when he falls in love with the daughter of a Major-General, and the pirates come back into the picture. The witty lyrics and sparkling music of Gilbert and Sullivan make this a perennial favorite with audiences of all ages.
