Le livre etant juge scandaleux a deux reprises (1733 et 1735), saisi et condamne a etre brule, l'auteur publie en 1753, une nouvelle edition de Manon Lescaut revue, corrigee et augmentee d'un episode important. Les qualites humaines du roman seduisirent rapidement le public et en feront sa celebrite.
