From thirsty dogs to old horses to pesky seagulls and fishy tales; from family squabbles to sports day races and flooded creeks; from letting loose on a skateboard to dancing amongst the trees: these wonderful poems are full of joy, humour and keen observation and will entertain and amuse a whole new generation of young readers. This new edition of Max Fatchen’s much-loved classic of children’s poetry features an introduction by award-winning children’s author Janeen Brian and lively cover and internal illustrations by Kathy Creamer. AUTHOR: Max Fatchen (1920-2012) was a children’s writer and journalist who spent his childhood on the family farm in the Adelaide Plains of South Australia. Entering journalism as a teenage copy boy, he later served in the Australian Army and Air Force during World War II and after the war worked for the News and the Advertiser, covering stories both in Australia and overseas. His first children’s book, The River Kings, was published in 1966. He published more than 20 books over his career, including poetry collections, novels and picture books, and also collaborated with other authors on joint projects. Many of Max’s books were published internationally as well as in Australia, won many awards, and three of his novels were made into a TV series. A popular and respected author, Max Fatchen was also awarded the Order of Australia, the Advance Australia Award for Literature, the Walkley Award for Journalism, the South Australian Great Award for Literature and the Centenary of Federation Medal. He even has two roads named after him in South Australia - the Max Fatchen Expressway and Max Fatchen Drive!
