Lesbos: Sappho and Orpheus.

Jill Dudley describes Lesbos as lyrical, both in its landscape and its people. It is the birthplace of the poetess Sappho, and the final resting place of Orpheus whose singing was said to be so beautiful that the mountains bowed down and animals drew near to listen. She describes the places where they are remembered on the island, and also writes about today’s miracle-working icon at the Taxiarchis Monastery.
