When Manny is told the children can’t pick any mangoes from the tree in the apt. building courtyard, he feels it’s not fair, the children tended the tree all year. The undocumented parents are afraid to act, so the children go on strike, scaring the grownups and raising one big hullabaloo.

I liked that the kids didn’t take no for an answer and they organized this protest all by them-selves…I thought it was great to read a story where children are the main actors and are learning to be troublemakers. Labor Notes
