Beverly’s Garden

This is a book written by a son about his mother’s garden. Presented as a sentimental pictorial of a mother’s flower garden, it includes several images of her garden flowers and identifies them by their common names. It also includes an original poem by the author. The poem, together with the many pictures is a testimony to the working person’s garden-where one goes with anticipation and pleasure to toil in the soil, work the plants and free the mind of worry and stress. The deeply moving poem sets the reader to understanding the close personal relationship a gardener has with their plants, flowers and even the creatures that visit there. The book also gives the reader insight into the unique kinship that develops between the garden and the gardener, who steadfastly devotes herself to caring for her earthen charges in all kinds of weather and through all the seasons. In the end, the book leads the reader to realize that the labor in a mother’s garden is not really so much about perfecting the looks of the garden as it is about caring for the plants and flowers that live there.
