Three Lives of Peter Novak

Peter Novak is no stranger to hardship. His life of abject poverty begins as his mother’s life ends. Sold into child labor at age eight, a privileged childhood does not seem likely. Hard work, ingenuity, and loyalty to his master earns Peter an opportunity for freedom. A new life awaits Peter in America, but he soon discovers the streets are not paved with gold. Filthy air, social unrest, and prejudice toward immigrants do not stop him from building a comfortable life - almost.
