Almost all of us who have heard of Marcus Aurelius know that Marcus Aurelius was a Roman Emperor and wrote the Stoic classic, Meditations. But what about his other works? What about anecdotes about his life? What about the letters he wrote? What about the speeches he made? These materials are not widely available. So those who are curious to understand Marcus Aurelius the man (as opposed to Marcus Aurelius the philosopher-king) have to rely almost completely on someone else’s scholarship. This book tries to remedy that. Probably for the first time in one hundred years, we present the little-known works of Marcus Aurelius in plain English.
