Champion Animals: Sculptures by Herbert Haseltine

The world’s only complete set of the British Champion Animals, by the noted American animal sculptor Herbert Haseltine (1877-1962) – a magnificent group of 19 horses, cattle, sheep, and pigs – is featured in this new book. The series is based on actual animals who won top awards at the show of the Royal Agricultural Society of England and other leading agricultural shows in Britain during the 1920s, when Haseltine was at his peak of creativity.Champion Animals contains exquisite color illustrations of the sculptures by fine arts photographer Katherine Wetzel. Also included are archival photographs of many of the original animals, as well as images of the sculptor’s plasticine models. The book includes excerpts for Haseltine’s memoirs, which chronicle the demanding, often unpredictable process of capturing an animal’s essential character in bronze or stone.
