Henry David Thoreau, the Cosmic Yankee , makes a witty 1100 mile foray into Canada. Suspense and excitement accompany every step of this intellectual invasion. Despite the apparent casualness of the writing, Thoreau put much of himself and his philosophy into this work. First published in 1866, A Yankee in Canada is one of a series of three famous travel books by Thoreau, including The Maine Woods (1864) and Cape Cod (1865).
