This story about little Juan and the lessons he learned has become a favorite for children in the Santa Fe, New Mexico elementary schools where Joseph Ruiz has been a substitute teacher and story teller as part of a volunteer project. The children want to hear it over and over. In fact, the story is so popular that it is now published in this Spanish and English edition so everyone can learn about little Juan’s lessons. * * * * Joseph J. Ruiz is a native New Mexican who had to start working at the early age of nine following the death of his father in order to help with family finances. After finishing high school, he went to work for the gas company as a meter reader. He retired some thirty years later as the vice president of that company. Joseph (known as Joe) has been very active in community affairs and he is a well respected citizen in his hometown of Santa Fe and throughout the state of New Mexico. Joe is also the author of three other bilingual books for children, The Little Ghost Who Wouldn’t Go Away,
Manuel and the Magic Ring, and Angel on Daniel’s Shoulder, all from Sunstone Press.
