The history of this report includes every archaeologists’ nightmare - a warehouse fire which destroyed some of the finds and the b/w photographic archive. A series of excavations in the town revealed an occupation sequence extending from the 1st century AD. The medieval defenses were examined and it is suggested that the settlement may have had a military origin.
