Tacitus: Germania

Tacitus’ Germania has been, for decades, almost exclusively the province of German-speaking scholars. Their interest requires no explanation, since no other people has been able to evoke an ancient piece of literature as such an integral part of their modern history as the Germans. Yet this significant work should be readily available to all students of classical antiquity. The present volume offers the first new commentary in English in more than sixty years which incorporates recent Tacitean studies and archaeological discoveries. With text and facing translation, the work becomes readily accessible to all readers.
