Global Health Challenge: Essays on Aids

This book examines large-scale issues, including: blood vaccine research; governmental strategies to contain the epidemic; media influence over the public; ways in which opportunistic infections use HIV as a gateway to create sub-epidemics in developing countries; and how the epidemic can undermine a society economically and socially. Developing countries feature prominently in this book. It gives special consideration to how those communities living in the midst of highest HIV incidence can be organised and motivated to combat HIV/AIDS. It will be of practical use to NGOs, development agencies and other partners seeking to tackle the increasing burden of the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
