The ninth volume in the Brooklyn College Studies on Society in Change series, originally published by Brooklyn College Press, is a political biography which offers a reappraisal of this controversial Ohio Republican’s public career. The book attempts to give a balanced and realistic interpretive portrayal of a significant politician who was connected with almost every seminal political event in American history from 1852 to 1872.
