Women and War in the Twentieth Century: Enlisted with or without Consent

The contributors to this work trace the evolution of women’s position as victims of war showing also how they have been increasinly incorporated into battle as actors and perpetrators. It documents women’s experiences from World War I through to the conflicts in the former Yugoslavia, and analyzes war’s disruptions of daily life, its effects on children, rape as a war crime, access to equal opportunity, and women’s resistance to violence.
