Medical Imaging in Gastroenterology and Hepatology

For decades medical imaging techniques have considerably shaped gastroenterology and hepatology. Endoscopy, ultrasound, computer tomography, and nuclear magnetic resonance tomography have pushed classical radiological techniques into the background. Whereas in the past medical imaging was used mainly for diagnostic purposes, endoscopy, sonography, computer tomography, and nuclear magnetic resonance tomography have also enhanced interventional procedures, particularly in recent years. However, three-dimensional visualisation in all these techniques of medical imaging is under development, and the significance for everyday clinical practice is difficult to estimate, although the future significance of three-dimensional demonstration of tumorous processes is already visible. This book, the proceedings of Falk Symposium 124, Medical Imaging in Gastroenterology and Hepatology (Progress in Gastroenterology and Hepatology Part I), held in Hanover, Germany, on September 28-29, 2001, aims to demonstrate the newest developments in the various imaging techniques for diagnosis and therapy, coupled with overviews by renowned international experts.
