After the records of the Colleton County Courthouse were destroyed during the Civil War, many documents of land transactions before the war were re-recorded and eventually put on file. This work summarizes the information in those documents. The Direct Index to Deeds, 1865-1974, Colleton County, South Carolina contains information valuable to the genealogist and historian studying pre-Civil War South Carolina.
