Arranged for easy use and compiled with obvious attention to detail, this book presents gravestone inscriptions from each of the twelve cemeteries in this region of Connecticut. The author’s preface is a succinct, humble summary of the book’s valuable contents: This book is a collection of the inscriptions on gravestones and monuments in all the cemeteries of that area comprising what was Litchfield Town before 1859…The inscriptions contained here are believed to be complete to the year 1900, and a number have been added from tombs and monuments erected since that date. Before each list of inscriptions found in the several graveyards I have inserted something of their history; and nowhere is the quaintness of old New England life better shown than in these dealings of man concerning his dead. Most dates fall between the mid-18th and late-19th centuries. Fourteen photograph illustrations and an every-name index are also included. (1905, 1996), 2015, 51/2x81/2, paper, index, 332 pp
