Their collaborative book, I Am a Fugitive from a Georgia Chain Gang! led to Darryl F. Zanuck and Mervyn Leroy’s hard-hitting film adaptation released by Warner Bros. in 1932. The book simultaneously traces the making and influence of the film and the Burns brothers’ continuing efforts to obtain a pardon, which never came.
