The purpose of these pages is to unite, within a small compass, statements by weighty and, for the most part, recent authorities which, it is hoped, will justify the submission of these conclusions to the reader’s consideration. This volume is largely a recast of one entitled The Foregleams of Christianity. The ambition of the work is to be, in a humble way, supplementary to the Boyle Lectures of Frederick Denison Maurice.
