Medieval Folk Tales for Children

Some people think that medieval Britain was a miserable and murky place, full of poor folk grubbing in the fields, being beaten by their lords and dying horribly of the Black Death, or in a war far from home. But it was not all bad, for long ago young people gathered together when their work was done, in the fields and on village greens, laughing loudly and telling stories of knights and derring do, of meddlesome monks and devilish demons, of plodding pilgrims and dog-headed people from lands far away. In this collection of medieval tales for children, storyteller Dave Tonge has adapted some of these stories and mixed them with morsels of medieval history to give young readers a fair and fine flavour of life long ago. AUTHOR: Dave Tonge is a professional storyteller and historian who gives storytelling performances to children at schools, museums, heritage sites and storytelling festivals, where he focusses on historical stories from Medieval and Tudor folklore. He has also written tours on the medieval history of Norwich Castle Museum, the British Museum and the Ashmolean, and was recently commissioned to create a storytelling session based on the Bayeux Tapestry for families. He lives in Norwich.
