Twenty years of research went into the writing of this book. Teresa Fee searched the annuals and the coastline of western IRELAND, looking for her family origins and finding answers on a small island off County Mayo. 'Kate' is Teresa's great grandmother, a 16 year old girl looking for love finding it in a 40 year old man who is shunned and lonely. Their desires spiral into a story of lust, rejection, intrigue and escape. Kate becomes a victim of an unforgiving religion, a social outcast who finds herself in the dreaded workhouse. Without control of her own life she is forced to immigrate to America hoping to find the redemption of her father Padraig.
