The history of Scotland is both humorous at times, yet very complex, disturbing and even exhausting as we look at their numerous conflicts. Most often these conflicts were internal and involved the Gaelic speaking Scots against their neighbors within the land of Scotland. Yet the conflicts were also against their neighboring country to the south. England tried for centuries through Scottish history to bring the determined and often stubborn Scots under its subjection and royal rule. When people began to leave by the thousands to settle in the New World of America, many of those individuals were Scots who were mentally exhausted from their continuous conflicts with other clans, with their southern neighbor of England and their daily struggle with poverty and survival. We follow one of those clan families from the southern Lowlands as they came to America in search of religious and political freedom and the promise of land. Our journey centered on this family as we trace them and their descendants over three hundred years. Their struggles were many, their accomplishments were many, and their heartache and difficulties were many as well. Yet they survive with great pride in their heritage and great pride in the country which they think is the greatest country in the world.
