The Vampire of Shangri-La is the story of Aland van Deest, a twelve-hundred-year-old vampire who sums up his dull routine as, Roaming the earth. Bedding women. Sucking blood. Lately, Aland lurks aboard a cruise ship as a maitre d’ where he’s a likeable member of the crew. He shows up for karaoke night and is a favorite with middle-aged women looking for a fling. Privately Aland is haunted by centuries of memories and wishes for a way to make them stop.A retired African-American physician, Felix Doc Willoughby, who was recently hired as a ship’s doctor, has been looking for Aland for years. He believes Aland may have known his father before he abandoned Doc’s mother at birth. Meanwhile, a travel agent from Wisconsin finds an enormous hickey on her neck where Aland fed, and sees Doc for a remedy. Doc turns to Aland for answers. Doc learns that Aland not only knew his mother, but that Aland is his father! Tragically, the despondent travel agent jumps overboard forcing Doc and Aland to transfer to another ship, the Shangri-La, where Aland becomes a singing sensation, and the father and son realize it’s not easy being reunited after 70 years. Aland also admits he would like to die naturally and enlists Doc to look for a cure. While Aland’s music career is born, the travel agent’s sister, Tanya, tracks Aland down because she suspects foul play. Aland is also being targeted by the elusive Vampire Hunter who wants to rid the world of vampires and enlists a group of terrorists to hijack the Shangri-La. Aland is in no mood for any heroics, but he is forced to decide whether he has the will to save his son from danger.
