Nothing is what it seems in this year’s Early Harvest anthology.

This collection features double-cross plotlines, diabolical survival scenarios, and the very best stories dreamed up by young authors for an audience of their peers.

Fifteen young editors, mentored by children’s author Rhiannon Williams and publishing industry professionals, have assembled a collection of betrayal and survival fiction over a yearlong writing project. The collection includes fifteen intrepid tales and poems written by young Australian writers between the ages of 8 and 12, alongside a story by bestselling author Alice Pung.

PROGRAM DETAILS
Two-Faced Tales is the lucky thirteenth book created through 100 Story Building’s Early Harvest youth publishing program. In this program, a panel of young editors, ages 11 and 12, are assembled every year to select the book’s theme, commission the artwork, curate the collection and make all the creative decisions involved in putting the book together, making it Australia's ONLY publication edited and written by kids for kids.

Book Review

Two-Faced Tales
by 100 Story Building

by Angela Crocombe, Jul 2025

This anthology of stories with the theme of survival and betrayal takes readers on a journey to the dark side. Written, edited and illustrated by young people, with 13 stories chosen by a collection of young editors aged 10–12, this book is a testament to their creativity, talent and hard work. With stories, quizzes, recipes, poems and even a cat-focused search-and-find amongst these pages, there is something for every reader. Author Alice Pung has also contributed a spine-tingling story to the collection. As each terrifying story is accompanied by illustrations on every page, this anthology is sure to entertain kids on a boring day and also inspire them to be creative themselves. Buying a copy will help support 100 Story Building, a social enterprise based in Footscray, which develops literacy and creativity in young people. These suspenseful stories are a delight for readers aged 9–12.
