The Repco Bathurst 1000 is the race we wait for each and every year. It is more than a grand final, and it is our sport's reason for being. La Nina struck the 2022 race. It caused the cancellation of the Shootout for the first time in its 44-year history as a deluge turned parts of the track into rivers and other areas into lakes. Race day was not quite sunny, but it was largely dry with a damp track that opened up with chaos. Four cars were gone by the time consecutive laps under green were run, and many others carried damage for the rest of the day. Not too far into the race, Shane van Gisbergen and Garth Tander took control, and went on to use track position to claim their second Bathurst 1000 win in three years. The sub plot was the end of the Holden era after more than five decades of battling with Ford for Australian motorsport's highest honour. This is the story of the race as seen by the crew of SupercarXtra Magazine.
