Within the first two or three casts, I had hooked my first brook trout. A seven-inch wonder that was absolutely gorgeous with spots, colors and feistiness I hadn’t ever experienced. How could this tiny fish be so wonderful to catch? How could I get so much pleasure out of tricking a dumb fish in that a piece of deer hair was actually a bug and twitching the fly line made it move on the water? Regardless, with pun intended, I was hooked.
