This is the story of a vessel, of a type called jakt, that was afloat
and in service for 123 years. Such a long life is exceptional.
Our vessel has had three names. She was named Stine Katrine
when finished in 1868, Asta 1 in 1935, and Anne Kristine in 1952,
a name she kept through four owners over 39 years.
She was originally a sailing working craft with but was later motorized. She
then became a yacht and under two owners acquired two different schooner rigs.
Over time she had five different propulsion engines including large heavy semi-diesels.
She met her end in a raging storm off the coast of Virginia
requiring heroic efforts by the Coast Guard to save the crew.
