James Garner, born James Scott Bumgarner on April 7th, 1928, Norman, Oklahoma, U.S, was an actor, producer, and voice artist. James starred in several TV series spanning over 5 decades, including popular roles such as Bret Maverick in the ‘50s western series Maverick then Jim Rockford in the '70s private detective show, The Rockford Files. Garner played leading roles in more than 50 movies, including The Great Escape (1963) with Steve McQueen, Paddy Chayefsky’s The Americanization of Emily (1964) with Julie Andrews, Grand Prix (1966), Blake Edwards’s Victor/Victoria (1982), and Murphy’s Romance (1985) with Sally Field, for which he received an Academy Award nomination. His career and popularity continued into the new millennium, with films including Space Cowboys (2000) with Clint Eastwood, and The Notebook (2004).
