A Nurse’s Survival Guide to Primary Care

This work is an introduction to primary care, aimed primarily at nursing students getting their first experiences of nursing outside hospital settings. It aims to do three things: first to paint a picture of primary care, showing how the community, general practice, nursing homes and other settings are interwoven with each other and with society as a whole to provide the context for primary health care; secondly to bring together some of the policy changes and professional developments which shape everyday health care and nursing practice; and thirdly, to highlight some of the many different areas of clinical practice in primary care, giving practical ideas for applying nursing principles and clinical experience gained elsewhere in the particular settings of primary care.
