Contested Terrain: African American Women Migrate from the South to Cincinnati, 1900-1950

This in-depth study focuses on black women migrants to the Northern states of America and in doing so examines the interaction of race, class, regionalism, and gender during the early years of the 20th century. This is a rare look at women migrants that provides both a cultural history of Cincinnati and the impact African-American women had on this community.
