Sexual Subjects: Lesbians, Gender, and Psychoanalysis

Informed by gender theory, queer theory and feminism, this psychoanalytic text addresses the tensions inherent in writing about lesbians and sexuality in the postmodern age. Using clinical anecdotes to demonstrate theory, the author questions the construction of certain categories of identity and reference - woman, feminine, lesbian, homo/hetero/bisexual, mother - while examining specific issues which are problematic yet meaningful to self-identified lesbians, such as the butch/femme roles.
