The main aim of this book is to provide an accessible introduction to the evolving Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN). The development of the ISDN from existing digital technology is discussed and features of these techniques which are significant for the development of an ISDN are described. The issue of digital local access to the trunk network is discussed in detail and the various techniques proposed to achieve this are presented.
