This book is an SI version of Look and Sauer’s Engineering Thermodynamics, published by PWS/Kent in 1986, and has been fully revised to eliminate all mention of units other than SI. The diagrams have all been relabelled, the exercises altered and graphs and tables originating from the US institutions replaced by those from the UK and Europe. The text offers extensive coverage of basic topics through to the advanced, and has particularly strong chapters on availability and irreversability, refrigeration and heat pumps. The authors give a straightforward development of concepts ranging from thermodynamic properties to forms of energy, including the first and second laws of thermodynamics. The text includes elaborate treatment of current applications of the principles of thermodynamics. Modern and innovative problems and examples are offered, and the material is presented in an order that allows lecturers to select chapters, once the basics have been covered. There are numerous worked examples, student problems and extensive illustrations. This book should be of interest to degree and diploma students taking courses on thermodynamics in all engineering disciplines.
